Target Information

ZEB2, also known as Smad interacting-protein 1, is a DNA-binding transcriptional repressor that interacts with activated SMADs. It inhibits transcription of the E-cadherin gene and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process controlling cell migration during development and wound healing. ZEB2 also protects cells from DNA damage-induced apoptosis, potentially contributing to tumor progression. It is often observed in the cytoplasm of cancer tissues, suggesting regulated localization. Mutations in ZEB2 are associated with Hirschsprung disease and Mowat-Wilson syndrome.
