Product Specific Information

This antibody recognises CD47, a multitransmembrane glycoprotein widely expressed on all hematopoietic cells and most other cell types. It is involved in cell adhesion, Ca²⁺ influx, platelet activation, and peripheral mononuclear neutrophil migration across endothelial and epithelial monolayers.


Target Information

CD47 (integrin-associated protein, IAP) is a ubiquitously expressed cell surface transmembrane glycoprotein that interacts with several integrins and regulates their functions. Engagement of CD47 by soluble ligands or counter receptors modulates various signaling pathways, such as activation of heterotrimeric G proteins. Functionally, CD47 is involved in the increase in intracellular calcium concentration that occurs upon cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix. It also serves as a receptor for the C-terminal cell binding domain of thrombospondin and may play a role in membrane transport and signal transduction.

CD47 has broad tissue distribution but is reduced in expression on Rh erythrocytes. It acts as a ligand for CD172a (signal regulatory protein alpha, SIRPα), an immune inhibitory receptor on macrophages; this interaction prevents phagocytosis of CD47-positive cells. Moreover, the CD47–CD172a system affects cell migration, B cell adhesion, T cell activation, and modulates chondrocyte responses to mechanical signals, promoting neuronal development, especially in synapse-rich regions of the brain and retina.
