Product Specific Information

  • PA1-052 detects leptin from human, mouse, and porcine samples.
  • Successfully used in Western blot and ICC/IF applications.
  • Detects an ~16 kDa leptin protein from human serum by Western blot.
  • Immunogen sequence (S(91)–D(106)) is 94% conserved between human and bovine.

Target Information

Leptin is a 167-amino-acid protein hormone (~16 kDa) that regulates body weight, metabolism, and reproductive function. It is encoded by the obese (ob) gene and primarily secreted by adipocytes, with smaller amounts from stomach epithelium and placenta. Leptin receptors are abundant in the hypothalamus, T lymphocytes, and vascular endothelial cells, mediating effects on feeding behavior, energy expenditure, and thermogenesis.
Leptin also influences hematopoiesis, angiogenesis, wound healing, inflammation, immune responses, and fetal growth. Dysregulation of leptin signaling is associated with obesity, anorexia nervosa, insulin resistance, and hypertension.
