Target Information
The DJ-1 (Park7) protein belongs to the peptidase C56 family. It acts as a positive regulator of androgen receptor-dependent transcription and may function as a redox-sensitive chaperone and oxidative stress sensor. DJ-1 protects neurons from oxidative stress-induced cell death. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal recessive early-onset Parkinson disease 7. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
