Heat-mediated antigen retrieval using a sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended for staining of paraffin sections. A suggested positive control for immunohistochemical applications is mammary gland.

Sheep anti-human lactoferrin antibody recognizes human lactoferrin (LTF), an approximately 80 kDa non-haem, iron-binding globular glycoprotein and member of the transferrin family present in milk and mucosal secretions, and also released from neutrophil granules during inflammation.

Target Information

Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-binding glycoprotein consisting of a single polypeptide chain (~80 kDa) folded into two homologous lobes, each capable of reversibly binding one ferric ion (Fe³⁺). It is found in milk, mucosal secretions, and neutrophil secondary granules.
LF plays roles in:

• Iron homeostasis regulation
• Host defense against microbial infections
• Anti-inflammatory activity
• Cellular growth and differentiation regulation
• Protection against cancer development and metastasis

LTF acts as a major first-line defense against microbial infections by efficiently binding and removing Fe³⁺, and also exhibits bactericidal and proteolytic activities.
Three isoforms (LTF-α, LTF-β, LTF-γ) are known, and receptors are expressed in the gastrointestinal tract, macrophages, lymphocytes, neutrophils, platelets, and certain bacteria.
