- Mouse anti-BrdU antibody, clone BU20A recognizes bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU or BrdUrd).
Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside analogue of thymidine. BrdU is widely used to detect proliferating cells in living tissues. It is incorporated into newly synthesized DNA of replicating cells during the S phase, substituting for thymidine during DNA replication.
Antibodies specific for BrdU can detect the incorporated chemical, indicating cells actively replicating DNA. Binding of the antibody requires DNA denaturation, typically achieved by acid or heat treatment.
