Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody eBio84-3C1 reacts with CD43 (leukosialin, galactoglycoprotein, sialophorin). CD43 is a sialomucin with both adhesive and anti-adhesive functions, expressed on most leukocytes except resting B lymphocytes. Upon activation, proteolytic processing decreases surface expression. CD43 participates in activation of T cells, B cells, NK cells, and monocytes. The counter-receptor for CD43 is CD169/SIGLEC-1, expressed on macrophages.

Applications Reported: Suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use: 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test in 100 µL final volume. Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD43 (leukosialin, sialophorin) is a transmembrane mucin-like protein with a high negative charge, expressed on most hematopoietic cells. It functions as a repulsive barrier interfering with cellular adhesion but can also promote leukocyte aggregation. Through interactions with actin-binding proteins (ezrin and moesin), CD43 regulates T-cell morphology and cell-cell interactions during lymphocyte trafficking. It modulates LFA-1 adhesiveness and influences p53-related tumor pathways. CD43 dysfunction is associated with Wiscott-Aldrich Syndrome and Adenoid Basal Cell Carcinoma.
