Product Specific Information
This antibody is specific for locally produced levels of the ~20 kDa uncleaved pre-pro-vasopressin protein. Immunolabeling of the uncleaved pre-pro-vasopressin protein band is completely blocked by preadsorption of the antibody with the peptide used as antigen.
Target Information
Vasopressin is a nine amino-acid peptide hormone that plays a key role in water and blood pressure homeostasis (Qureshi S., et al 2014). It is derived from a 164 amino acid pre-pro-peptide that produces vasopressin, neurophysin II, and copeptin in a 1:1:1 ratio (Arroyo J.P. et al, 2021).

Traditionally, vasopressin was thought to be produced only in the brain, stimulating V2 receptors in the kidney. However, recent studies (Arroyo J.P. et al, 2022) demonstrate localized production in the kidney. This antibody specifically detects uncleaved pre-pro-vasopressin, enabling differentiation between locally produced vasopressin and hypothalamic uptake. It has been instrumental in identifying vasopressin expression in the distal nephron of human and mouse kidney.
