Description:
The eBioJM7A4 monoclonal antibody reacts with the IL-15 receptor alpha chain (IL-15Rα). IL-15 and IL-2 are cytokines with overlapping but distinct biological effects. Their receptors share two subunits, IL-2Rβ and γ chains, essential for signal transduction. IL-15Rα is structurally related to IL-2Rα but binds IL-15 with approximately 1,000-fold higher affinity. Three differentially spliced IL-15Rα variants capable of high-affinity IL-15 binding have been identified in humans. The cytoplasmic domain of IL-15Rα, like IL-2Rα, is dispensable for mitogenic signaling, suggesting the α chain primarily confers high-affinity binding. At high concentrations, IL-15 can signal through IL-2Rβ and IL-2Rγ even without the α subunit.

Reported for use in flow cytometric analysis, immunoprecipitation, and Western blotting (WB).

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of LPS and IFNγ-stimulated human peripheral blood cells. Recommended ≤0.5 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Antibody titration is advised for optimal performance.

Purity: Greater than 90%, as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Aggregation: Less than 10%, as determined by HPLC.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

Interleukin 15 receptor alpha (IL-15RA) is a cytokine receptor that binds IL-15 with high affinity. IL-15 regulates T and NK cell activation and proliferation. IL-15 and IL-2 receptors share IL-2Rβ and IL-2Rγ subunits, with IL-15RA structurally related to IL-2RA. Unlike IL-2RA, IL-15RA binds IL-15 independently of other subunits. IL-15RA enhances cell proliferation and expression of apoptosis inhibitors Bcl-xL and Bcl-2.
