This antibody reacts with all isoforms of mouse CD44.
Western Blot: non-reducing conditions.
Target Information
CD44 is a 100 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on human leukocytes, white matter of the brain, and various epithelial cells. It serves as a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and is involved in cell-cell interactions, adhesion, and migration.
Multiple isoforms exist, including the predominant CD44H form found in many tissues. CD44 plays roles in lymphocyte activation, recirculation, homing, and may be upregulated in certain carcinomas, potentially linked to metastasis.
Expression occurs in hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells, epithelial tissues, and filopodia of keratinocytes. Bone marrow myeloid cells and memory T cells express high levels, while peripheral B and T cells upregulate CD44 upon stimulation.
Alternative splicing of the CD44 gene produces structurally and functionally diverse isoforms. Dysregulation of CD44 is associated with diseases such as superficial keratitis and lichen sclerosus, and may be implicated in tumor metastasis.
