MA3-031 recognizes Gal4 DNA Binding Domain corresponding to amino acids 1–147 of the GAL4 DNA binding region.
Target Information
GAL4 is a transcriptional activator that activates genes necessary for galactose catabolism.
The DNA binding domain of GAL4 is contained in the first 74 amino acids and includes a zinc finger sequence motif.
Amino acids 1–147 have been shown to bind DNA in vitro.
While GAL4 (1–74) binds DNA specifically, its affinity is lower than GAL4 (1–147).
GAL4 (1–147) binds to a specific 17 base pair nucleotide sequence but alone cannot activate transcription.
Activation requires either activating region I (aa148–238) or activating region II (aa768–881).
