  • Source: cDNA obtained from human fibroblast interferon beta 1a mRNA expressed in CHO cells.
  • Storage:
    • After receipt, store at -20°C for short-term use (<6 months).
    • For long-term storage, store at -70°C or below for full activity retention.
    • Thaw vial in cold tap water until just thawed.
    • Aliquot contents to minimize freeze-thaw cycles.
    • Refreeze on dry ice or in a dry ice/alcohol bath.
    • Further dilution should be in protein-containing buffers (e.g., 0.1% BSA).

Target Information

Type I Interferons (IFN-alpha/beta) are produced primarily in response to viral infection by natural IFN-producing cells (IPCs) as part of the host immune response. IFNs can also inhibit tumor development. IFN-beta binding activates tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2, leading to phosphorylation of STAT transcription factors and expression of immune response genes. Members of the toll-like receptor (TLR) family also stimulate IFN-beta production. Clinically, IFN-beta is used for treatment of tumors, infections, and multiple sclerosis.
