Target Information
G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs), also known as seven transmembrane receptors or 7TM receptors, are a superfamily of proteins involved in various stimulus-response pathways. GPR signaling is an ancient mechanism used by eukaryotes to sense environmental stimuli and mediate cell-cell communication.
GPR20 is a 358 amino acid membrane protein that constitutively activates G(i) proteins without ligand stimulation. It may regulate intracellular cAMP levels and mitogenic signaling. GPR20 is expressed in liver and specific brain regions (putamen, caudate, thalamus), but not in hypothalamus, pons, or frontal cortex.
