Target Information
SHOX2 is a member of the homeobox family of genes encoding proteins with a 60-amino-acid DNA-binding domain. Homeobox genes act as transcriptional regulators involved in pattern formation in invertebrates and vertebrates.
Aberrations in these genes are associated with several human genetic disorders. SHOX, a pseudoautosomal homeobox gene, is linked to idiopathic short stature and Turner syndrome.
SHOX2 is also considered a candidate gene for Cornelia de Lange syndrome. Alternative splicing results in two distinct isoforms.
