The polyclonal anti-human occludin antibody cross-reacts with rat, mouse, and dog occludin.
Target Information
Occludin is a 65 kDa protein that can exist in various phosphorylated forms (up to ~82 kDa). It plays a role in regulating tight junction localization and function. Polyunsaturated fatty acids up-regulate occludin expression, enhancing transendothelial resistance and reducing permeability. Expression levels vary by tissue—high in brain at cell contact sites, lower and discontinuous in non-neural tissues. Occludin structure is conserved across species. Under-expression of occludin and other tight junction proteins contributes to increased permeability in tumor endothelia, associated with brain tumor edema.
