Target Information
Serine/threonine-protein kinase component of the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC), a key regulator of mitosis.
The CPC ensures correct chromosome alignment and segregation and is essential for chromatin-induced microtubule stabilization and spindle assembly.
It regulates cytokinesis onset, spindle formation, and cleavage furrow formation.
AURKB phosphorylates CPC subunits (BIRC5, CDCA8, INCENP) and several substrates (CENPA, DES, VIM, histone H3, etc.), controlling chromosome segregation and cytokinetic processes.
It also modulates p53 transcriptional activity and participates in checkpoint control during cell division.
