Carrier-Free

Reconstitution:

• Briefly centrifuge vial before opening.
• Reconstitute lyophilized protein in sterile distilled water to 1.0 mg/mL.
• Alternatively, reconstitute in carrier-containing medium.
• Do not vortex.
• Prepare working aliquots and store at -20°C.
• Dilute further in medium or buffer containing carrier protein (e.g., PBS with 0.1% BSA).

Reconstitution volumes:

• 50 µg → 50 µL
• 100 µg → 100 µL
• 500 µg → 500 µL

Storage:

• Store lyophilized protein at -20°C, preferably desiccated.
• After reconstitution, aliquot and store at -20°C (not frost-free freezer) for up to 12 months.
• Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Target Information

FGF2 (basic fibroblast growth factor, bFGF) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family that binds high-affinity transmembrane receptors to regulate cell proliferation and neovascularization.
It exists as five isoforms with distinct intracellular localizations and functions:

• The 18 kDa isoform is cytosolic and acts via surface receptors.
• The 22, 22.5, 24, and 34 kDa isoforms are nuclear and may signal independently of receptor pathways.

In humans, the FGF2 gene is located on chromosome 4q.
It plays roles in limb and nervous system development, wound healing, and tumor growth.
FGF2 mRNA has multiple polyadenylation sites and is alternatively translated from AUG and non-AUG codons, producing isoforms with distinct properties.
CUG-initiated isoforms mediate intracrine effects (nuclear), while AUG-initiated forms mediate paracrine and autocrine effects (cytosolic).
FGF2 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as Kaposi Sarcoma and corneal neovascularization.
