Product Specific Information
Carrier-Free
Reconstitution: Briefly centrifuge vial before opening to collect contents at the bottom. Reconstitute EGF in sterile, distilled water to a concentration of 0.1–1.0 mg/mL. Further dilutions should be made in aqueous buffers supplemented with carrier protein.
Storage:
Lyophilized preparation is stable at 2–8°C, but should be stored at -20°C for long-term storage, preferably desiccated.
After reconstitution, stable for up to one week at 2–8°C. For maximal stability, aliquot and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Target Information
EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) binds to the EGF receptor (EGFR), a 170 kDa protein kinase, initiating multiple cellular pathways. EGFR forms homo- or heterodimers with other family members, each activating distinct signaling cascades via SH2-containing effector proteins.
EGF is widely expressed in kidney, cerebrum, prostate, and salivary glands. It acts as a potent mitogenic factor, recruiting adapter proteins like GRB2 to activate downstream signaling cascades such as RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK, PI3K-AKT, PLCγ-PKC, and STAT.
Research suggests EGF may also activate the NF-κB signaling pathway. Defects in the EGF gene are linked to hypomagnesemia type 4, and dysregulation has been associated with certain cancers.
