Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes the ovine CD4 cell surface glycoprotein, which is expressed by a subset of mature T lymphocytes.
Mouse anti Sheep CD4 antibody, clone 44.38 immunoprecipitates a protein of approximately 56 kDa under reducing conditions.
Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV.
CD4 is primarily expressed in a subset of T-lymphocytes (T helper cells) and may also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
Tissue-level expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and specific regions of the brain and gut.
CD4 functions to initiate or augment early T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck.
It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
