Mouse anti-Bovine CD40 antibody, clone IL-A156 recognizes the bovine CD40 cell surface antigen, which is expressed by B lymphocytes and a subset of T lymphocytes.

Target Information

The CD40 antigen is a single-chain glycoprotein belonging to the tumor necrosis factor/nerve growth factor superfamily. It shows significant homology to the Hodgkin’s disease-associated antigen CD30. CD40 is present on all B cells except plasma cells and is also found on some epithelial cells, carcinomas, and lymphoid dendritic cells.

CD40 plays essential roles in immune and inflammatory responses, including:

• T cell-dependent immunoglobulin class switching
• Memory B cell development
• Germinal center formation

AT-hook transcription factor AKNA regulates CD40 expression, while adaptor protein TNFR2 mediates CD40 signal transduction. The CD40–ligand interaction is critical for amyloid-beta-induced microglial activation, implicated in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
