Product Specific Information

The eBioM3/38 antibody reacts with mouse Galectin-3 (Mac-2). Galectins are a family of animal lectins exhibiting diverse biological functions. Galectin 3 (LGALS3, Mac-2, L-29) is a 30 kDa beta-galactoside-binding protein with a C-terminal carbohydrate-binding site, capable of binding IgE and mammalian cell surfaces when homodimerized or homo-oligomerized.

Galectin 3 is distributed in epithelia and inflammatory cells (macrophages, dendritic cells, Kupffer cells). Expression is up-regulated during inflammation, cell proliferation, differentiation, and by viral trans-activation.

This monoclonal antibody eBioM3/38 cross-reacts with human Galectin-3 (LGALS3).

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on mouse thioglycolate-elicited peritoneal macrophages. Recommended ≤ 0.06 µg/test (100 µL volume). Cell count range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Optimize titration for best performance.

Target Information

Galactose-specific lectin binding IgE. Mediates endothelial cell migration via alpha-3, beta-1 integrin and CSPG4. Together with DMBT1, required for terminal differentiation of columnar epithelial cells during early embryogenesis. Functions as a pre-mRNA splicing factor in the nucleus. Involved in acute inflammatory responses, including neutrophil activation, monocyte/macrophage chemoattraction, opsonization of apoptotic neutrophils, and mast cell activation.
