Product Specific Information

This DS8RELM monoclonal antibody recognizes mouse RELM alpha (FIZZ1) and does not cross-react with mouse RELM gamma.
It has been reported for use in flow cytometric analysis of resident peritoneal macrophages using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product # 88-8824-00) and BestProtocols® Protocol A for intracellular staining.
Recommended usage is ≤ 0.5 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test and should be optimized empirically.

Target Information

RELM alpha (Resistin-like alpha, FIZZ1) is a small cytokine (88 amino acids, MW 9.4 kDa) primarily produced by macrophages. It is highly expressed in peritoneal, alveolar, and adipose tissue macrophages and strongly induced by IL-4 and IL-13.
Together with Arginase 1 and Ym-1, RELM alpha is a hallmark of M2 macrophage polarization in mice. It is absent in IL-10–induced M2c macrophages.
Elevated RELM alpha levels may indicate parasitic infection. Humans lack the RELM alpha gene, but human Resistin shares similar properties.
Other mouse RELM family members include RELM beta, RELM gamma, and Resistin, each with distinct tissue distributions and functions.
RELM alpha plays key roles in parasite infection, mucosal inflammation, and allergy.
