Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD4 antigen, a 55 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on a subset of T lymphocytes (“helper” T-cells) and also on monocytes, tissue macrophages, and granulocytes.

Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells but also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue-level expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and some regions of the brain and gut. CD4 contributes to early T-cell activation via interaction with Lck kinase and may mediate neuronal damage in infectious or immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
