Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD11a (alpha subunit of human LFA-1), a 170–180 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
Recommended dilution: 100 µL of whole blood or 1×10⁶ cells in suspension.
Target Information
CD11a (LFA-1 alpha, ITGAL) together with CD18 constitute leukocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1), the αLβ2 integrin. CD11a is involved in activation of the LFA-1 complex and plays a central role in leukocyte adhesion through interactions with ICAMs 1–3. It also functions in lymphocyte costimulatory signaling.
CD11a exists in low- and high-affinity conformations depending on cell stimulation. It is critical in immune cell interactions, tissue localization, and regulation of differentiation and proliferation.
Blocking CD11a function is a therapeutic strategy in inflammatory diseases, e.g., Efalizumab (Raptiva) interferes with T-cell migration, and simvastatin binding to CD11a modulates immune activity.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD11a have been identified.
Diseases associated with CD11a dysfunction include benign cephalic histiocytosis and leukocyte adhesion deficiency.
