By Western blot, MA1-140 detects a prominent ~42 kDa protein in human, mouse, non-human primate, and rat whole cell lysates.
For visualization of actin filaments by immunofluorescence, fixation and permeabilization with methanol is required.
Target Information
Beta actin is one of six actin isoforms identified in humans. It is a non-muscle cytoskeletal protein expressed in all cell types, involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity.
The beta isoform, along with gamma actin, forms part of the cytoskeleton. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) results in filamentous actin (F-actin) with a two-stranded helical structure.
Because beta actin is ubiquitously expressed, it serves as a reliable loading control in protein detection assays such as Western blotting.
Antibodies to beta-actin are valuable tools for studying intracellular distribution and cytoskeletal dynamics.
