Target Information
Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in pathological conditions including arthritis and metastasis.
Most MMPs are secreted as inactive proproteins that are activated upon cleavage by extracellular proteinases. MMP-14 belongs to the membrane-type MMP (MT-MMP) subfamily, which contains a transmembrane domain indicating cell surface expression. MMP-14 activates MMP2, contributing to tumor invasion processes.
