Target Information
Ran is a small signaling GTPase involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport. It also plays roles in spindle aster formation and nuclear envelope reassembly during mitosis. Unlike Ras or Rho, Ran is not membrane-associated. Its function is regulated by the spatial distribution of accessory proteins such as RanGAP and RCC1, which control the balance between RanGTP and RanGDP. Mammalian RanGAP is anchored to the nuclear pore through SUMOylation and interaction with nucleoporin Nup358.
