Occludin은 약 65 kDa의 단백질로, 여러 인산화 형태(최대 약 82 kDa)로 존재할 수 있습니다. 이 단백질은 타이트 정션의 위치 및 기능 조절에 관여하며, 다불포화 지방산에 의해 발현이 증가되어 세포 간 저항이 높아지고 대분자 투과성이 감소합니다. 뇌 조직에서는 세포 접촉 부위에서 높은 수준으로 지속적으로 발현되며, 비신경 조직에서는 낮고 불연속적인 발현을 보입니다. Occludin의 구조적 특징은 다양한 종에서 보존되어 있으며, 종양 내 혈관 투과성 증가와 관련된 타이트 정션 단백질의 저발현 현상에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
