PA1-125 recognizes MnSOD in bovine, human, mouse, and rat samples and has been used in WB and IHC(P) applications.
This antibody was originally validated as part of a Thermo Scientific Cellomics High Content Screening Kit.
The antibody sold separately may have slightly different performance and may need further optimization for best results.

Target Information

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant enzyme involved in defense against reactive oxygen species (ROS).
SOD catalyzes the dismutation of superoxide radical anion (O₂⁻) to hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), which is further converted to water and oxygen by glutathione peroxidase and catalase.

Several classes of SOD have been identified:

• SOD1 (Cu, Zn-SOD): Intracellular, homodimeric enzyme (~32 kDa)
• SOD2 (Mn-SOD): Mitochondrial, tetrameric enzyme (~80 kDa)
• SOD3 (EC-SOD): Extracellular, heparin-binding multimer
• SOD4 (CCS): Copper chaperone for SOD1, delivering Cu cofactor

SOD2 is located in the mitochondrial matrix, near the respiratory chain, a primary source of superoxide generation.
