Target Information
Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase 4 (TIMP4) is encoded by the TIMP4 gene on chromosome 3. It inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes responsible for extracellular matrix degradation. TIMP4 binds irreversibly to MMPs with zinc as a cofactor. The netrin domain of TIMP4 is involved in platelet recruitment and aggregation, and it also plays roles in cytokine response, peptide hormone signaling, ovulation cycle regulation, and CNS development.
