Product Specific Information
- For immunohistochemistry, epitope retrieval with citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended for FFPE tissue sections.
Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family, part of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The CEA cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins are located within a 1.2 Mb cluster on chromosome 19. Eleven pseudogenes of the CEA subgroup are also found in this cluster.
The encoded protein, initially identified in liver bile ducts as biliary glycoprotein, functions as a cell-cell adhesion molecule expressed on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia. It mediates adhesion through homophilic and heterophilic interactions within the subgroup and participates in several cellular processes including tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and modulation of immune responses.
Multiple transcript variants exist, though the full-length nature of all variants has not been defined.
