Target Information

Catenin alpha-1 associates with the cytoplasmic domain of various cadherins. The catenin–cadherin complex links to the actin filament network and plays a key role in cadherin-mediated cell adhesion. It can associate with both E- and N-cadherins. Although previously thought to stably link cadherins to actin, recent findings suggest CTNNA1 does not bind F-actin in the complex, indicating a distinct linkage mechanism. The homodimeric form may regulate actin filament assembly and inhibit branching by competing with the Arp2/3 complex for actin binding, thus playing a crucial role in cell differentiation.
