Target Information
Sox genes comprise a family of genes related to the mammalian sex determining gene SRY. These genes contain sequences encoding the HMG-box domain, responsible for sequence-specific DNA-binding activity. Sox genes act as transcriptional regulators involved in cell fate decisions and developmental processes.
Currently, approximately 30 Sox genes have been identified, conserved across evolution, and play key roles in animal development. Some are implicated in human diseases, including sex reversal.
