Product Specific Information

Reconstitute the lyophilized powder with deionized water (or equivalent) to an antibody concentration of 0.5 mg/mL.

Voltage-dependent anion selective channel protein 1 (VDAC1, also known as mitochondrial Porin) is the predominant protein in the outer mitochondrial membrane. VDAC1 is predicted to have a beta-barrel structure consisting of 13 or 16 membrane-spanning strands. It can function as an NADH ferricyanide reductase and plays a vital role in modulating endostatin-induced endothelial cell apoptosis. Its activity is regulated by Nek1 (NIMA-related protein kinase 1) through phosphorylation on serine 193.

This antibody was developed in rabbit using a KLH-coupled synthetic peptide within residues 150–200 of human VDAC1 (Swiss Prot: P21796).

Target Information

Voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) proteins are abundant, pore-forming proteins found in the eukaryotic mitochondrial outer membrane and plasma membrane. At least three different VDAC genes have been identified in vertebrates. VDAC proteins play essential roles in cellular metabolism and the early stages of apoptosis, facilitating exchange of metabolites such as ADP/ATP, succinate, and citrate between the cytosol and mitochondria. VDAC1 in the plasma membrane contributes to apoptosis regulation, potentially via redox activity.
