Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the INK4 family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors. It interacts with CDK4 or CDK6 to prevent activation of CDK kinases, functioning as a cell growth regulator controlling G1 phase progression. Overexpression suppresses human cell growth, correlated with wild-type RB1 function. Knockout mouse studies indicate roles in spermatogenesis regulation and tumor suppression. Two alternatively spliced transcripts encode the same protein.
