Target Information
The SPARC gene encodes a cysteine-rich acidic matrix-associated protein. This protein is essential for collagen calcification in bone and is involved in extracellular matrix synthesis and cell shape modulation. It has been linked to tumor suppression as well as metastasis due to its role in promoting changes in cell morphology that facilitate tumor cell invasion. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
