Specificity Comments:
SPARC (secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine), also known as osteonectin, is a phosphorylated, acidic, glycine-rich glycoprotein secreted by endothelial cells. It is abundant in the parietal endoderm of mouse embryos and human placenta. SPARC plays a key role in bone calcification and is highly conserved across species. It can be selectively expressed by endothelial cells in response to injury, influencing endothelial barrier function through F-actin–dependent morphological changes that facilitate macromolecule extravasation.


Target Information

The SPARC gene encodes a cysteine-rich, acidic, matrix-associated protein essential for collagen calcification in bone. It also contributes to extracellular matrix synthesis and modulation of cell shape. SPARC has been linked to both tumor suppression and metastasis due to its effects on cell morphology. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
