Specificity Comments:
SPARC (Secreted Protein Acidic and Rich in Cysteine) is a phosphorylated, acidic, glycine-rich glycoprotein secreted by endothelial cells. It is identical to osteonectin, a protein important for bone calcification and conserved across species. SPARC regulates endothelial barrier function through F-actin-dependent changes in cell shape, forming intercellular gaps that allow macromolecule extravasation.

Target Information

The SPARC gene encodes a cysteine-rich acidic matrix-associated protein essential for bone collagen calcification and extracellular matrix synthesis. It influences cell shape and has been linked to both tumor suppression and metastasis. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
