Target Information
SETD8 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates Lys-20 of histone H4. This modification is enriched during mitosis and serves as a marker for epigenetic transcriptional repression. SETD8 functions mainly in euchromatin regions, playing a key role in silencing euchromatic genes. It is required for cell proliferation, contributing to proper higher-order DNA structure during mitosis, chromosome condensation, and cytokinesis. Nucleosomes are preferred substrates over free histones.
