Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotic chromosomes. Two molecules of each core histone (H2A, H2B, H3, H4) form an octamer around which ~146 bp of DNA is wrapped, forming nucleosomes. The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA and aids chromatin compaction.
This gene, part of the histone H4 family, is intronless and located on chromosome 6. Its transcripts lack polyA tails and instead contain a palindromic termination element.
