Product Specific Information

Specificity: Recognizes CBX5 (Chromobox protein homolog 5), binding to a folded domain (amino acids 18–75).
CBX5 is a heterochromatin component that binds histone H3 tails methylated at Lys-9 (H3K9me), leading to epigenetic repression.

Target Information

Heterochromatin protein-1 (HP1) is a methyl-lysine binding protein localized at heterochromatin sites, mediating gene silencing.
Mammalian methyltransferases that methylate histone H3 on lysine-9 generate a binding site for HP1 proteins, which act as adaptor molecules involved in gene silencing and chromatin structure regulation.
The HP1 chromodomain specifically recognizes the methylated lysine-9 epitope on histone H3.
In vivo, heterochromatin association of HP1 proteins is lost in Suv39h double-primary mouse fibroblasts but restored after reintroduction of catalytically active SUV39H1 HMTase.
