Product Specific Information
Specificity: This antibody recognizes CBX1 (Chromobox protein homolog 1). It binds to a folded domain (amino acids 20–73). CBX1 is a component of heterochromatin and binds histone H3 tails methylated at Lys-9, leading to epigenetic repression.
Target Information
This gene encodes a highly conserved nonhistone protein, a member of the heterochromatin protein family. The protein is enriched in heterochromatin and associated with centromeres. It contains an N-terminal chromodomain that binds methylated lysine residues on histones and a C-terminal chromo shadow-domain responsible for homodimerization and interaction with chromatin-associated nonhistone proteins. CBX1 plays an important role in epigenetic regulation of chromatin structure and gene expression. Several related pseudogenes are located on chromosomes 1, 3, and X. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
