Target Information

Thymidine phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine into their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate.
It acts as a chemotactic and mitogenic factor for endothelial cells and serves as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor found in platelets.
Additionally, it plays a role in the transformation of fluoropyrimidines—cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment—into active cytotoxic metabolites.
