Target Information
Serine/threonine-protein kinase component of the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC), a key regulator of mitosis. The CPC ensures correct chromosome alignment and segregation, and is required for chromatin-induced microtubule stabilization and spindle assembly.
AURKB phosphorylates CPC subunits such as BIRC5/survivin, CDCA8/borealin, and INCENP, enhancing its own activity. It also phosphorylates substrates including CENPA, DES, KIF2C, NSUN2, RACGAP1, SEPT1, VIM, GSG2, and histone H3 (Ser-10, Ser-28).
AURKB is essential for kinetochore localization of BUB1 and SGOL1 and negatively regulates p53/TP53 transcriptional activity. It acts as a key regulator of active promoters in resting B- and T-lymphocytes.
