Target Information
The tumor suppressor protein p53 is a sequence-specific transcription factor activated by cellular stress. It mediates cell cycle arrest or apoptosis in response to DNA damage or nutrient deprivation. Phosphorylation at Ser15 is critical for p53 activation and stabilization. p53 plays a role in preventing proliferation of damaged cells and acts as an anticancer factor. Mutations in p53 are commonly found in human cancers, leading to loss of tumor suppressor function. Additionally, p53 is involved in aging, oxidative stress responses, and has been linked to learning and memory processes.
