Target Information
This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase STE20 subfamily. One of the active site residues in the protein kinase domain of this protein is altered, making it a pseudokinase. It is part of a complex involved in activation of serine/threonine kinase 11, which regulates cell polarity and energy metabolism. The complex mediates relocation of the kinase from nucleus to cytoplasm and is essential for G1 cell cycle arrest. The encoded protein also interacts with the X chromosome-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein, enhancing anti-apoptotic activity via the JNK1 pathway. Two pseudogenes for this gene are located on chromosomes 1 and 7.
