Reconstitute in 100 µL of sterile water. Centrifuge to remove any insoluble material. After reconstitution, keep aliquots at -20 °C for higher stability, and at 4 °C with an appropriate antibacterial agent. Avoid repetitive freeze/thaw cycles. Glycerol (1:1) may be added for additional stability.

Target Information

Glutathione peroxidases (Gpxs) are ubiquitously expressed enzymes that catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides by glutathione. Several isoforms exist, differing in primary structure and localization. The classical cytosolic/mitochondrial GPx1 (cGPx) is a selenium-dependent enzyme and was the first GPx family member discovered. GPx2 (GI-GPx) is expressed in the gastrointestinal epithelium, while GPx3 (pGPx) is secreted mainly by the kidney into the bloodstream. GPx4 (PH-GPx) acts on a wide range of hydroperoxides, including those in membranes and lipids. All mammalian GPx family members, except Cys-containing GPx3 and epididymis-specific GPx5, have selenocysteine at the active site.
