Target Information
GATA3 is a zinc finger transcription factor that binds enhancer elements of T-cell receptor (TCR) genes (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta). It regulates T-cell receptor gene activation and is abundantly expressed in the T-lymphocyte lineage.
The human GATA3 gene comprises six exons spanning approximately 17 kb, with two zinc fingers encoded by separate exons highly conserved with those of GATA1. GATA3 mRNA is expressed in T cells but not in B cells or macrophages, indicating its role in T-cell specific gene regulation.
