Activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule (ALCAM; CD166) is a 105 kD cell-surface adhesion molecule belonging to the Ig superfamily. It is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with five extracellular Ig domains, a transmembrane region, and a short cytoplasmic tail. ALCAM mediates homotypic and heterotypic adhesion with its ligand CD6. A soluble isoform inhibits homophilic interactions.
ALCAM is expressed on activated T and B cells, monocyte-derived dendritic cells, and thymic epithelial cells. It is also used as a marker for pluripotent stem cell isolation.
Applications Reported: Suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on mouse splenocytes; ≤0.5 µg/test recommended.
Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Titrate for optimal performance.

Target Information
The ALCAM (CD166) gene encodes an immunoglobulin receptor subfamily member with five Ig-like domains (VVC2C2C2) in its extracellular domain. It binds to CD6 and plays a role in cell adhesion and migration. Multiple alternatively spliced variants produce different isoforms.
