This antibody recognizes the gB antigen of both HSV-1 and HSV-2 (Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 and 2), which are double-stranded DNA viruses belonging to the Herpesviridae family.
Target Information
Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), also known as Human herpes virus 1 and 2 (HHV-1 and -2), are highly contagious to humans.
- HSV-1 strains are typically associated with cold sores.
- HSV-2 strains cause most cases of genital herpes.
Transmission occurs when an infected individual is shedding the virus.
Herpes virions contain a large double-stranded linear DNA genome within a capsid and enveloped by a viral membrane.
HSV strains contain more than 70 open reading frames (ORFs).
HSV infection has also been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
